Aspen/Pitkin County Airport

Aspen, Colorado

With nearby local attractions such as the Maroon Bells, Independence Pass, 4 ski areas and the Aspen Institute, the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) serves as a community transportation hub for resort and business activity. As the area surrounding the airport is in the heart of Colorado's Rocky Mountain resort area, ASE wanted to create a signage and wayfinding program that would tie into the ski-town feel of the surrounding local area, as well as the historical and cultural aspects reflective of Aspen. Being a world class destination, it was important the signage be simple yet tasteful in conveying destinations and information. Honing in on the aspen, the quintessential Colorado tree, and an elegant and appropriate representation for Aspen/Pitkin County, the signage incorporates aspen leaves into the background pattern of the sign as well as into the identification markers. Our design team created a wayfinding signage system that used sophisticated and artistic treatments to create a sense of identity and place for the airport. The work included creating the signage and wayfinding solutions to address the airport’s terminal, roadways, curbside, and rental car facilities. The signage system was designed for easy assembly and maintenance.
